Nigerian Striker Jerry Mbakogu was delighted to score his first-ever goal in Serie A at the weekend, which proved to be the match winner for struggling Carpi in a 2-1 home win over Sampdoria.
Carpi are 18th on the 20-team league table with 17 points from 20 games.
Mbakogu Scored the winner in the 55th minute when he converted a spot kick.
The elated striker admitted there was tension when he wanted to take the kick but he steadied his nerves to put the ball into the net.
"The goal? I've waited so patiently, I'm really happy. The first time you never forget, is a day that will be in my mind. The most important thing is the victory, regardless of who scored,” the 23-year-old striker told his club’s website.
"We must make sacrifice for the team and play for each other.
"Last year I beat the rigours and I've always scored. Zaccardo asked me if I felt like taking the kick and I said yes. It was an opportunity to score my first goal, a little 'tension was there, but I was calm and I was able to score."
He added: "This victory is the right path for our survival. It was a tough game because we played against a team who are used to this stage, we shouldn't expect an easy win, but we will play more and to score points. We won with the heart."
The 23 year old is one of the hottest properties in Italian football, and is targeting a call - up to the Super Eagles after committing his international future to Nigeria despite living in Italy for the past ten years.
