Today's Gossip: United Agree £27m Fee For Ivorian; Chelsea Target Moses' Replacement

Tags: yearold club deal

Manchester United have held talks with a Barcelona midfielder over a move while Watford could take one of Jose Mourinho’s talented youngsters on loan, according to Wednesday’s newspapers.

Manchester United have agreed to a £27 million deal to bring Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier to Old Trafford, but only if his appeal against a conviction succeeds, reports the Mirror.
The Ivorian was convicted of assaulting a police officer at a Paris nightclub last September and is currently banned from entering the UK.

An appeal has been lodged though, which could allow Aurier to complete his move and reignite his career after a series of controversies in the French capital in addition to being relegated to second choice after the arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus.

The 24-year-old's case will be concluded next week in the French courts and, if successful, lead to him penning terms on a £90,000-per-week deal.

Barcelona See Dembele As Neymar Replacement
Barcelona appear resigned to losing Neymar, with Paris Saint-Germain ready to trigger his astronomical buyout clause, meaning a search for a replacement is imminent, and the Independent reports that Ousmane Dembele is their ideal man.
The Borussia Dortmund starlet would not come cheap, but neither would another target, Paulo Dybala, with the Juventus striker likely to fetch in excess of £100m.

The 20-year-old could cost closer to £70m, and would appear to be a more realistic target too, given the Bianconeri have already lost Leonardo Bonucci to rivals Milan and would be unlikely to entertain selling more key players from the side that reached the Champions League final last term.

Chelsea To Reignite Deal For Candreva
Chelsea have received encouragement in their pursuit of Inter Milan winger Antonio Candreva, reports the Mirror.
The Italy international will be allowed to depart, likely for around £23m, but only if the Nerazzurri can secure Lazio star Keita Balde as a replacement.

The Senegalese is also wanted by Juventus, but Antonio Conte has tracked the 30-year-old since last summer.

The Blues boss would likely utilise him less in an attacking role than Luciano Spalletti, potentially as cover for Victor Moses at wing-back, though the former Lazio star could play in either of the two attacking midfield roles behind the striker in his 3-4-3 system.

Roma Bid For Liverpool Target Mor
Roma have grown frustrated by Leicester's stubbornness to agree to a fee for Riyad Mahrez, and Gianluca Di Marzio believes focus has shifted to Borussia Dortmund's Turkish winger Emre Mor, previously linked to Liverpool.
The story claims the Bundesliga side have rejected the Giallorossi's offer of €20m with future add-ons and are instead demanding €25m plus a further €5m in bonuses -- almost double what Fiorentina bid earlier in the summer.

A deal for Mahrez is not dead just yet but is proving especially difficult for the club's director of football Monchi, who has prepared a Plan B in the form of Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez.
Iheanacho, 20, is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Foxes, calling time on his three-year career with City and ending uncertainty over his future.

Mourinho Makes Contact With Barcelona Midfielder
Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto is open to a move to Manchester United and has spoken to Jose Mourinho, according to reports in Spain.
The story claims Mourinho has been in regular contact with the midfielder, who scored the dramatic late winner in Barca’s miraculous comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last season.

Despite splashing out £38.5m on Nemanja Matic, Mourinho is keen to add more depth to his midfield, but it’s reported that while Roberto wants to make the move, he wants assurances over his first-team prospects at Old Trafford.

New Barca boss Ernesto Valverde has been linked with moves for Marco Verratti, Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho – leaving Roberto to fear for his place.

And Diario Gol claims Roberto is considering his options amid the approach from Mourinho and United.

Watford Hoping To Sign Fosu-Mensah
Watford are hoping to take versatile Manchester United youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah on loan.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim boss Marco Silva has spoken to his friend Jose Mourinho about the possibility of loaning the 19-year-old for the season.
Fosu-Mensah is highly-regarded by United boss Mourinho, especially given his ability to play at right-back, centre-half and in midfield.

Indeed the player has featured in every one of United’s pre-season matches but made just 11 appearances in all competitions last season and was often overlooked by Mourinho.

United have this week signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea and are thought to be closing on a deal for Serge Aurier.

So sending Fosu-Mensah on loan for the season could be in the best interests of all parties, if the deal gets agreed.
