With the scores at 0-0 just after the hour mark, captain Ighalo stepped up from 12 yards but saw his poor spot kick kept out by home Goalkeeper Cheng Yuelei.
Three minutes later, Guangzhou scored the only goal of the game when Junior Urso headed in from a corner to continue Ighalo’s tough start to life in the CSL.
