Today's Gossip: Latest On Shaw, Messi, Payet, Silva & More

Arsenal are tipped to test the water with an offer for a €100m-rated Atletico Madrid star, while Luke Shaw has vowed to fight for his Manchester United future amid claims he’s wanted on loan by a Premier League rival, according to Wednesday’s papers.

Inter Hope Messi 'Dreams' Come True
They say you have to dream big to achieve big. Well, Inter Milan are certainly doing that with Corriere dello Sport claiming Lionel Messi is a dream target for the Nerazzurri.
Tronchetti Provera, a former Inter director and president of the club's sponsor, Pirelli, said, "Messi is the dream, and sometimes dreams can come true."

The report appears to generate optimism from the fact that the Barcelona superstar has yet to sign a new deal, with his contract expiring in 2018. Yesterday's Transfer Talk highlighted reported interest in Messi from Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite a host of European giants lining up to compete for the world's best player, the story suggests Chinese retailer and Inter owners Suning would fight for the Argentinian.

Hammers Table New Deal In Bid To Keep Payet
West Ham have been pushed into readying a new deal for Dimitri Payet just months after the French superstar signed his current contract, with The Sun reporting that the Hammers are conscious of interest in their talisman.
The Hammers could offer Payet £125,000 per week to snub interest from Manchester United nine months after he received a £50,000 per week raise.

In a disappointing season so far for Slaven Bilic's side, Payet has proven his worth by delivering a goal and six assists, which has motivated Jose Mourinho to consider an offer for the 29-year-old.

Juventus Target Ivanovic After Alves Setback
Branislav Ivanovic could make a surprise move to Juventus in January, with the Old Lady eyeing the Chelsea defender to fill in for the injured Dani Alves, according to the Mirror.

The Brazilian suffered a fractured leg last week and is set for an extended period on the sideline, which puts the Serbian at the top of the list for a short-term replacement.

With Ivanovic's deal expiring at the end of the season, January will be the last opportunity for the Blues to retrieve a fee, even if it is likely to be a modest one for the veteran defender.

Foxes Reignite Silva Interest
Leicester failed in their pursuit of Sporting midfielder Adrien Silva last summer, but the Mirror revealed that the Foxes are keen to reignite their interest in January, in hopes of landing the Portuguese international.
Claudio Ranieri's side came up short in the summer, with a £21 million bid, and could up their offer to give their mixed season a boost.

After featuring for the Sporting in the Champions League group stage, Silva would be ineligible for the Foxes in the knockout stages of the competition, for which they have qualified, but could add much-needed quality in the midfield to help steer the champions away from a relegation battle.

With January rapidly approaching, Craig Burley shares his opinion on whom Manchester United should look to bring in.

Arsenal Tracking £85m Star?
Arsenal are casting envious eyes towards Atletico Madrid, with goalkeeper Jan Oblak being monitored with a view to a possible future move.
According to The Sun, the Gunners have made regular checks on the Slovenian stopper, who has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the world while at Atleti.

It’s claimed that Arsenal see Oblak as the long-term successor to Petr Cech, but appear unwilling to meet the Spanish side’s valuation of €100m (£85m).

However, they could test the water with an official bid for Oblak – most likely next summer – though that will be for far less than the current asking price.

The 23-year-old is the only Atleti player to start all 13 league games this season for Simeone, the latest of which was a 3-0 win at Osasuna in which Oblak saved an early penalty.

Oblak is not the only Atleti star linked with a move to the Premier League, with Jose Gimenez and Antoine Griezmann regularly linked with transfers.

France forward Griezmann recently dropped a huge hint on his future after admitting he would be open to a move to these clubs.

Shaw To Fight For His Shirt
Luke Shaw is ready to fight for his future at Manchester United amid reports Crystal Palace are ready to make an approach to sign the left-back on loan.
The England star has endured a miserable season at United so far having twice been criticised by Jose Mourinho. Mourinho blamed Shaw for Watford’s second goal when United lost 3-1 at Vicarage Road in September, and singled him out again when the 21-year-old withdrew from the squad at Swansea earlier this month because ‘he was not in the condition to play’.

Matteo Darmian has been preferred to Shaw in recent weeks, but the player could be handed a chance to impress on Wednesday night when United face West Ham in the League Cup quarter-finals.

And the Daily Mail says the player is determined to win back Mourinho’s trust and has ‘no intention’ of leaving the club, either on loan or in a permanent deal, when the transfer window reopens.

He may re-assess the situation in the summer if it does not improve but remains committed to the club.

Anthony Martial is another young United player who has struggled to hit top form under Mourinho this season.

The Frenchman has been left out of the squad for the last two games against Feyenoord and West Ham even though he was fit, following a warning from the United boss that his chances are running out.
