That's according to new reports emerging for Italy this week.
West Ham still have some work to do to stay in the Premier League when the season resumes in two weeks.
Everton meanwhile have improved under Carlo Ancelotti and are hoping to gatecrash the European places.
West Ham interested in Uruguayan Vecino since January
According to The Daily Star West Ham have been interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Vecino since January.
At West Ham, Carlos Sanchez will definitely be leaving at the end of the season. Mark Noble has urged the club to stop relying on him and bring in more midfielders (talkSPORT).
And West Ham need another central midfielder alongside Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.
Everton have their own issues in the middle of the park and Ancelotti is said to be keen to put his own stamp on the side in the summer window.
Vecino signed for Inter from Fiorentina in the summer of 2017 for around £20million (Goal). He has only registered 10 goals and six assists in 88 appearances for the Italian giants, however.
The 28-year-old – a 41-capped Uruguay international, is technically proficient and a very good passer of the football.
Report: Inter actively looking to sell energetic midfielder
He is also full of energy and well adept to the modern pressing game. West Ham boss David Moyes insists he wants to sign hungry, energetic players to make the Hammers a genuine force (whufc.com and beIN Sports).
And Vecino very much fits that mantra.
Now according to Tuttosport and Football Italia, Inter are trying to sell Hammers target Vecino in the next window, which is expected to open as soon as the current season finishes at the end of July.
But now West Ham's Premier League rivals Everton have joined the race for Vecino's signature according to the reports.
The report claims Everton were also tracking Vecino back in January and remain interested.
A fee of around £18million has been touted.
Everton enter the race
For West Ham Vecino would certainly be an upgrade on Noble on the pitch, but little more than that.
Everton might hold the ace card with Ancelotti a more attractive proposition to play under than Moyes.
Whether West Ham are willing to splash out any remotely large sums this summer remains to be seen.
But beyond Financial Fair Play limitations, money appears to be no object for the Toffees. The Goodison Park side are in that second tier of Premier League clubs along with the likes of West Ham.
It is the Blues who look more likely of breaking the elite anytime soon, though, thanks to their infinitely more ambitious owners.
