Report makes £35m superstar claim, West Ham and Manchester United will both be gutted

West Ham United's hopes of signing Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United appear to be dead in the water, with ESPN claiming that the Chilean is not prepared to take a pay-cut on his mammoth £500,000 per week wages.

According to a report from Italian website FC Inter News, West Ham contacted with the agent of Sanchez a few days ago.

At the time, the claims seemed to be rather far-fetched.

And now it is almost certain that the 31-year-old Manchester United ace will not be joining the Hammers.

That's if ESPN are to be believed. They claim that Sanchez is not willing to take a pay-cut on his £500,000 per week wages.

Superstar signing dead in the water?

Sanchez would have been a quite sensational signing for West Ham. Sure, he seems to have regressed over the last two years. But he proved how good he can be during his time with Barcelona and Arsenal.

At the same time, it will be a big blow to Manchester United, who will be desperate to get the Chilean off their wage-bill.

The forward, who is currently on loan with Inter Milan, racked up 47 goals and 35 assists in 141 games for the Catalan giants (Transfermarkt), before being sold to Arsenal for £35 million in 2014 (Independent).

The 132-capped Chile international racked up an impressive 80 goals and 45 assists in 166 games for the Gunners (Transfermarkt).

In truth, the idea of Sanchez joining West Ham seemed far fetched from the outset.

Let's face it, even if the United ace was willing to take a 50% pay-cut, the Hammers still wouldn't be able to afford to pay him £250,000 per week.

And it seems as though West Ham fans will have to either lower their expectations.

Quite who David Moyes will bring to the club, however, remains to be seen.
