Charlie Nicholas suggested that he has not been impressed with West Ham Ace Pablo Fornals so far this season, when speaking on Sky Sports' Gillette Soccer Saturday yesterday (Saturday March 7th, 13:43).
The 24-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2019 from Villarreal for around £24 million (BBC).
The Spaniard made a slow start to life in east London. But he began to show what he is really capable of around October time.
The midfield play-maker was arguably West Ham's best player for the final two months of Manuel Pellegrini's tenure.
Most Hammers fans have been very impressed with Fornals over the past four or five months. His work-rate is incredible, and he has real quality in the final third.
The former Villarreal man has racked up four goals and five assists in 31 appearances for West Ham so far this season (Transfermarkt).
Nicholas told Sky Sports' Gillette Soccer Saturday yesterday how he hasn't been impressed with Fornals thus far, however, when describing the Hammers ace's playing style:
“Fornals has not really impressed me so far. He sits on the left, comes in and feeds the passes into the forwards.”
In truth, Nicholas's verdict on Fornals is ridiculous. He clearly hasn't watched West Ham very often this season.
In 27 Premier League appearances, he has made 35 tackles, 16 interceptions, 98 ball recoveries and has created four big chances (premierleague.com).
Considering this season is the Spaniard's debut campaign in the Premier League, he should be very proud of his contribution to the team thus far.
Fornals will surely continue to get better, the longer he plays in England.
And hopefully Nicholas will be made to eat his words. It wouldn't be the first time.
