Former West Ham star off the mark and fans simply can't believe it

When West Ham United sold Javier Hernandez to Sevilla earlier this month they never envisaged him doing this.

The 31-year-old left West Ham to link up with Sevilla on transfer deadline day, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £8 million, according to Sky Sports.

The 108-capped Mexico international failed to live up to expectations at West Ham. He managed to score just 17 goals in 63 appearances for the east London outfit.

Chicharito's 76 poacher's goals

Hernandez lived up to his box predator billing over the course of his Premier League career by only ever scoring all of his 76 goals INSIDE the box.

So imagine the surprise of West Ham fans when they saw Chicharito score his first goal for Sevilla - a superb curling 25-yard free-kick into the top corner in the 3-0 Europa League win over Qarabag on Thursday night.

It was a superb strike, as you can see in the Twitter video below, and for Hammers fans it is a real head-scratcher.

Hernandez's scores shock debut goal

Hernandez showed zero free-kick taking ability during his time with West Ham.

And he certainly never came close to scoring from outside the box in open play.

West Ham fans simply could not believe what they were seeing when videos emerged online of their former striker's goal.

They flooded social media clips with reactions of disbelief at the worldy of a goal. Most were asking the same question… 'Where was that when you played for us?'

'Where was that for us?'

The Mexican striker aimed a dig at West Ham on leaving for Sevilla. He described the move as a step up for his career (Sevilla official website).

He then shared his delight at joining a ‘Triple A’ team like Sevilla, when speaking exclusively to Mexican media outlet TUDN.

Were West Ham too hasty getting rid of Hernandez given the lack of alternatives available in Manuel Pellegrini's current squad?

Time will tell.

Sebastien Haller is the main man. But it remains to be seen whether back-up striker Albian Ajeti is up to the job of standing in.
