Maxi Gomez woes continue after West Ham snub as Valencia turmoil deepens

Maxi Gomez may be privately regretting snubbing West Ham United as his Valencia woe deepens.

The Gomez saga already seems like many moons ago for West Ham fans.

The long-running transfer battle between West Ham and Valencia eventually fell in favour of the La Liga side.

West Ham were desperate for a striker and were running out of options.

Valencia got their man, though, and at the time Hammers fans were left feeling disconsolate.

Haller and Gomez's contrasting starts

Champions League football and sunnier climes had won the day for the Spanish outfit over West Ham’s more lucrative contract.

In the end West Ham need not have worried. The record capture of the more proven striker Sebastien Haller saw to that.

And the pair could not have experienced more contrasting starts to life at their new clubs.

Haller has scored three goals in three games and looks every bit a top class striker.

Gomez woes deepen

Meanwhile, Gomez has barely kicked a ball for struggling Valencia, is already being questioned by the club's fans and has now seen the manager who pushed the boat out to sign him sacked.

Well-respected Spanish journalist Héctor Gómez claims that Los Che decided to sack Marcelino Garcia Toral after a fallout with club president Peter Lim.

His replacement? Former Spain Under-21 boss Albert Celades, who has been out of work for over a year.

Celades was heavily criticised in Spain for his failures to lead Spain young stars to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, while they only qualified for the Euro U21 tournament in 2017 by the virtue of playoffs.

Turmoil at Valencia

While West Ham are enjoying their new striker Haller, Gomez has played just two minutes of competitive action so far this season.

It comes after he failed to register a single minute of playing time at the Copa America with Uruguay.

Gomez undoubtedly has talent. But perhaps West Ham and manager Manuel Pellegrini have dodged a bullet this time around.
