Hammers flop has no regrets over move to West Ham

Jordan Hugill has told The Teesside Gazette that he does not regret moving to West Ham. Hugill joined West Ham from Preston North End for a reported £10m fee in January 2018 (Teesside Gazette).

Hugill was the only permanent signing of David Moyes' era. But since his big-money switch to East London, the ex-Port Vale striker has struggled. He has only managed three senior appearances for the club, amassing a total of less than 30 minutes on the pitch for the Irons.

Nonetheless, Hugill does not regret moving to West Ham. The 27-year-old, who has been loaned out to the Championship twice, described the move as something he never imagined he would do.

I have no regrets at all, Hugill told The Teesside Gazette. “Going from Preston to West Ham is something I could never have dreamed of in my whole life. I’d do it over and over again, regardless of what happens, I’d do it 100 times over.”

Despite Hugill's optimism about his failed West Ham move, it is unlikely that we will ever see him pulling on the claret and blue shirt. He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he was hit-and-miss and he is now at Queens Park Rangers.

Hugill scored on his debut for QPR - in their win over Stoke City - and will hope to continue his fine form this season. But whether he can step up and play Premier League football is another question.

Manuel Pellegrini did not take Hugill to China and was willing to let him leave permanently this summer before settling for a loan move. Hugill would have to do something special at QPR to convince West Ham to give him another chance.
