BREAKING: MSU running back announces he is transferring

Transfers are becoming more and more common all the time, and this off-season has been a big example of that for the Michigan State Spartans.

Earlier today, another Spartan announced his plans to transfer, as senior running back Madre London made the announcement in a statement via his Twitter account:

“I would like to thank Coach Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Athletics Department for giving me the opportunity to further my education as a student and continue my football career as a Spartan football player. I will proudly be graduating in May from Michigan State University. I am grateful for everyone who played their part in ensuring my successful future.

After long and deep introspection, I will be relinquishing my last year of eligibility as a Spartan, and, I am requesting my release from Michigan State University football.

I would like to thank the Spartan Nation for their dedication, and I leave with the strength, kindness, and wisdom that was given to me.
In gratitude,
Madre London
February 10th”

London finishes his career as a Spartan with 230 carries, for 924 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. This past season he ran the ball 83 times for 304 yards and three scores.

London got off to a fast start as a freshman in 2015, starting for the first half of the season before being slowed by injuries. That season he had 119 carries for 500 yards, good enough for 4.2 yards per carry and three touchdowns.

However, his role has since been limited. In 2016, London got just 28 carries for 120 yards and a couple of scores. The main reason for this is because the Spartans have had a loaded backfield, led by LJ Scott and Gerald Holmes. Holmes graduated after this past season, but Scott announced he would return for his senior year right after Michigan State defeated Washington State in the Holiday Bowl. With Scott expected to get most of the carries this next season, it stands to reason London would like to go elsewhere seeking playing time his senior year.
