To say that Detroit Pistons fans (or basketball fans in general) were surprised by today’s acquisition of Blake Griffin might be an understatement. Upon the news of the landscape-changing trade, some of those fans took to the Twitter-sphere.

Blake Griffin trade negotiations:
Stan Van Gundy: “Can I talk to the GM please?”
Doc Rivers: “I am the GM. Can I talk to YOUR GM please?”
SVG: “I’m the GM, too.”
Doc: “Really? It’s hard doing both isn’t it?”
SVG: “I gave Jon Leuer 42 million dollars.”
Doc: “I’ll take him.”

After taking Darko over Carmelo Anthony in the best draft class of our generation (which I’m STILL salty about) this has to be the best move the @DetroitPistons could have done!

Of course, this is just a sample size of the reactions that are taking place on Twitter right now. Personally, I was surprised by the move. Detroit is in the midst of an eight-game losing streak and has fallen out of the playoff picture for the time being, currently sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
With the departures of Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris, the team loses a fair amount of offense (about 33 points per game). But, in Griffin’s 33 games this season, he has averaged 22.6 points per game, as well as 7.9 rebounds and five assists. Griffin has also become fonder of the three-point shot this season than any other season in his career, connecting on a career-best two triples per game.
What are your thoughts, Nation? Are you among those criticizing the trade, or are you celebrating the team’s new acquisition?
BREAKING: Detroit Pistons land Blake Griffin in blockbuster trade
The Detroit Pistons have acquired All-Star power forward Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Earlier today the Pistons announced they put Avery Bradley on the trading block and seemed to signal that the team might be considering a rebuild. Instead, they pull off the biggest trade of the NBA season thus far in acquiring Griffin. The 28-year-old 5-time All-Star has wreaked havoc offensively since making the jump to the NBA, but his durability has been questioned as he hasn’t played more than 67 games in a season since 2014. Griffin is doing it all this year, averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
