BREAKING: Jim Caldwell not the only coach fired by Lions as OL coach also let go

On Monday morning, news broke that the Detroit Lions had fired Jim Caldwell after four years of him serving as head coach.

But Caldwell was not the only coach fired by the Lions on New Year’s Day.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, general manager Bob Quinn has also decided to part ways with offensive line coach Ron Prince.

Prince originally joined the Lions coaching staff in 2014 as the assistant head coach and tight ends coaching before taking over the offensive line coaching duties in 2015.

During Prince’s time in charge of the offensive line, Matthew Stafford has been on his back more than necessary and the Lions rushing attack has been virtually non-existent.

As of now, it’s just Caldwell and Prince who have been fired. Birkett noted that the Lions overall coaching staff is considered “fairly strong” and the wise move would be to keep it in place until a new head coach is hired and can make his own decisions.

He accrued a 36-28 record in four seasons at the helm of the team, and two playoff appearances, although both resulted in first round exits.
