Report: Patriots’ CB Logan Ryan linked to Detroit Lions

Despite blowing the NFC North crown this past season, the Detroit Lions still managed to qualify for the playoffs before losing to the Seattle Seahawks in embarrassing fashion.

If they want to contend for the division once again in 2017, the Lions absolutely must make some upgrades on both offense and defense. One position that could use a playmaker is cornerback. Other than Darius Slay, the Lions lack true NFL starting CB talent and finding a wingman for Slay should be a priority this offseason.

One free agent name that has been thrown around quite a bit as being a good fit for the Lions is Logan Ryan of the New England Patriots.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, multiple sources have mentioned Ryan and the Lions in the same breath.

From the Boston Globe:

The general feeling around the league is that Logan Ryan will price himself out of the Patriots’ market — potentially $10 million per year — and three different sources mentioned the Lions, who need a cornerback and are run by GM Bob Quinn, a former longtime Patriots scout.

With the salary cap increasing once again, the Lions will have some free agency money to spend. Ryan seems like the perfect fit in Detroit but paying $10 million/year may be a bit steep for Bob Quinn to consider. If he is indeed that expensive, look for Quinn to turn to the draft to find a CB solution.
