SPL Power Rankings, Week 20: Al Hilal Ride The Storm Creating Havoc At Ittihad

1 As a typical Clasico calls for a showcase of relentless grit, posture and unwillingness to simply give-in, league leaders Al Hilal were the ones to top this one out. Showing less than pure class to come from a goal down but then showing class to score two more at Ittihad. Scenes were ugly but they got the job done. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Won at Al Ittihad 3-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Fateh (9/3) 2 Show brilliance in one round and then show nothing in the next. The week long breaks between rounds are clearly effecting Al Nassr. Yehya Al Shehri – his left foot is brilliant but was as so brilliant against Faisaly. Fans were not too enthusiastic about this draw and rightly so according to Al Nassr standards. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Draw against Al Faisaly 0-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Raed (14/3) 3 Has really rejuvenated themselves since the 3 – 2 win against Al Nassr. Three wins and two draws in the last five games is a run they should be proud of and clearly so. The celebration by the squad and Hélio dos Anjos after the third goal suggested the euphoria the club is going through. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won at Al Taawon 3-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Khaleej (11/3) 4 Were lucky on both ends of the pitch to walk away with the three points, thanks to the call for the soft penalty at the 89th minute. Yet, a Win is a Win and that three points will take them far. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 4 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won at Al Ettifaq 1-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Nassr (14/3) 5 They’re keeping their heads above water as the club suffers through their first slump throughout the season. Clearly more is needed from the midfield, but that goal from فيديو.. هدف الاهلي الثاني في مرمى الخليج عن طريق اللاعب “عبدالفتاح عسيري”@ALAHLI_FC#الخليج_الاهلي#برو_سبورت pic.twitter.com/FfiCXP9ZFn — Mbc Pro Sports (@MBCProSports) March 4, 2017 LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Draw at Al Khaleej 2-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Wehda (9/3) 6 Were riding when Akaichi found the net early on. But the tragic moment that led to Carlos Eduardo scoring the equaliser (definitely not a FIFA Fair Play Award nominee) hit them hard. Things just went down-hill from there with players, the bench, the fans, officials – all crying foul play at almost every physical challenge throughout the game. Their night was summed by this. مشادة بين لاعبي الاتحاد والهلال بعد طرد فهد المولد#الاتحاد_الهلال#برو_سبورت pic.twitter.com/MKjVGDeKcd — MBC PRO SPORTS (@MBCProSports) March 5, 2017 LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Lost against Al Hilal 1-3 Next SPL match: Away at Al Batin (14/3) 7 Must walk away knowing that they ‘won’ the game. Even though they had a few clear cut chances to put a dagger through. Especially Romanian Axente who had ample time on that header. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Nassr 0-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Shabab (11/3) 8 The difference between Al Shabab and the BIG FOUR was in full display on Saturday. Lack of opportunities in front of goal while lacking the ability to convert the little that they are able to make for themselves. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Draw at Al Fateh 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Faisaly (11/3) 9 A questionable performance yet again especially the tremendous run in the ACL so far. They are currently frustrated, and eighth in the table. Here’s the real issue: As good as their depth looks on paper, they haven’t produced on the field, and that’s cost them. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost against Al Qadasiyah 1-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ettifaq (9/3) 10 We talked to our infatuation over GK Abdullah Al-Araaf. Well this kid was the reason that Al Wehda went back home with a point. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Batin 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ahli (9/3) 11 Created most of the chances off of the two teams, just did not have the final touches in front of goal. A common theme for non-big four clubs. Will need to start churning out these potential gifts into points if they want to remain in top flight. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Al Shabab 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Hilal (9/3) 12 Was that a soft call for the penalty that we heard. Yes it was. Another reason to believe why club refuse to be officiated by Saudi refs. Fall under pressure too quick, too soon. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Al Wehda 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ittihad (14/3) 14 They’re now four points in their last eight, and are paper thin in central defense. Jalal Qaderi knows it and will probably require the same level of aggressiveness as they fight to the end. Way to shut down Al Ahli though. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Al Ahli 2-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Qadasiyah (11/3) 14 Were hard done by the soft call against them. Also hard done against the hard penalty opportunity earlier. Was just not their day. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Raed  1-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Taawon (9/3)
