Watford 2-1 Arsenal: Same old spineless Arsenal

What happened at Vicerage Road should come as no surprise to anybody. Our lack of consistency for the best part of a decade has meant we have not seriously challenged for the title during that time. You can talk all you want about the penalty but there are deeper problems at the club that need addressing.

We lack a spine

How insulting is it that straight after the match that Troy Deeney of Watford, with due respect tells us we lack the ‘cojones’ and that they don’t fear us? Sadly, this has been the case for a long long time, it is only coming out with such frankness and transparency as if to say that they don’t care if we know about this problem or not, such is their confidence of how we will perform under Wenger. We saw Manchester City come here and win 6-0, Watford were never in the game. This is what is important, dominate your opposition so much that the referee becomes irrelevant. We did not do that, we did not kill the game when we had opportunities to in the first half. The manner in which we play, the way we fail to kill the game time and again opens up opportunities for the opposition to snatch the game from us. Teams do not fear us, simple as that. We’ve been riding our luck many times these past few weeks but have got away with it. Our luck finally ran out.

Mesut Ozil is not world class

Ok so speaking about killing the game with our chances, I don’t care what anybody says, a player, who until recently was our record signing couldn’t finish the easiest of chances to put us 2-0 up? You need to understand that our fanbase have been Ozil apologists for way too long, he is not world Class, simple as that. He is immensely talented don’t get me wrong, but a truly world class player steps up in the big games, helps his team through crucial moments in games throughout the season and helps them win trophies. You see the way Messi was able to create history for himself and Argentina a few days ago and get them to the World Cup, that is a truly world class player. I’m not necessarily comparing Messi to Ozil, but just think about it, Ozil can’t even finish an easy one on one against Watford and you call him world class? This isn’t just about this one miss this is the straw that breaks the camels back for me, and the reason is this, I implore you to recall a time that Ozil has dominated a game for us? When did he last perform in a big game and truly make a difference like a world class player does? When you put that into context and then see that he can’t even do the basic thing against Watford, well then, you can see why myself and many others in our fanbase are frustrated. He is a good player, but that’s about it, no proof of him being truly world class. There is no media agenda, he just isn’t that good, deal with it.

This will happen again

I think about the Las Vegas shooting last week and think about how America never does anything to change their gun laws and how shootings continue to happen. Indeed that was the deadliest mass shooting in terms of casualties.

The saying goes insanity is the doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. As long as Arsene Wenger stays at Arsenal not only will things stay the same, things will likely get worse. Apart from a spirited performance against Chelsea (which can be classed as the exception not the rule), we saw the humiliation at Anfield, coupled with this loss to Watford and loss to Stoke. The humiliations to big teams will continue and the odd loss to mid table teams will happen, it will be the norm. When we do beat mid table sides, there will be papering over the cracks, like conceding 3 to Leicester, or 2 to BATE, or narrowly beating Doncaster.

We can no longer be taken seriously as a big club, at best we are an overperforming mid-table club. This will only get worse with Wenger and Kroenke at the helm.
