The Cleveland Cavaliers are still heavily pursuing a trade to get Paul George, and I think he'll end up playing with the Cavs if he wants his best chance to win a championship right now. However, if Paul George is thinking about winning and creating something special of his own, I think he should sign with the Washington Wizards.
Even though I do think there are some huge pitfalls playing with Lebron James in Cleveland, I also realize just how good he is and what it means when you get to play on the same team as LeBron. With that said, I still stand by my position that Washington is the better option.
Why the Washington Wizards?
John Wall and Bradley Beal are in the middle of their prime, and with another player on their team who can create scoring options for themselves and others, I think that will get them out of the East and past the Cavaliers.
There's an old saying, "If you can't beat them, join them." I don't think that's the case here with Paul George. I think he can beat LeBron and the Cavs if he goes to the Wizards.
Why? Well, for starters the Wizards have a better coach. I respect Head Coach Tyronn Lue, but he only got the position to coach where he's at because LeBron liked him. It's not a bad way to earn a job, but it's not the best way either. I think Lue needed to be an assistant a while longer before transitioning, because his true ability to coach will show when James is no longer a Cavalier.
So, coaching is one thing, but so is the roster. On the surface the Cavs seem to have a better roster, but in reality they don't--the Wizards have the better roster. Why is that? Because they simply know how to play better with one another.
Why Pick the Cavs?
If Paul George wants a guarantee that he'll finally get to the NBA Finals in his career, he'll go play with LeBron in Cleveland. However, he better play the game of his life each and every single game of the regular season as well as the postseason. Or else he's going to end up on the trading block just like Kevin Love.
If Paul George is confident enough that his game won't suffer from playing in a LeBron system, then he should go to Cleveland. I don't think he'll win a ring in Cleveland or in Washington because of this team called the Golden State Warriors. However, that's a totally different story to dig into that we won't touch right now.
The best reason to pick going to the Cavs is to become a sports headliner, because no matter what team he goes to he's just not winning a championship. It's hard to find a silver-lining that's greater than playing for the Cavs over the Wizards, but it's there if you're a huge LeBron fan.
However, if you look at it objectively I think you would agree it's best for him to play for the Wizards.
