Week 8 Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins

Coming off a bye week and a win the week before, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to have momentum on their side as they are in another prime time game. Now the Steelers turn their attention to the winless Miami Dolphins.

With a 2-4 record, the Steelers are trying to claw their an above .500 record. Fans are hoping the Steelers can get closer to a .500 record with a win over the Dolphins. Coincidentally, the Dolphins also have the Steelers’ first round pick for next year’s NFL Draft.

There’s really not much to say about the Dolphins, except that they are pretty bad. This Dolphins team ranks bottom or near the bottom in every statistical category. On a positive note, the Dolphins do have three first round picks in the 2020 Draft to improve their team.

Steelers Players to Watch

Returning from injury is quarterback Mason Rudolph and he’ll be starting against the Dolphins. This marks the first time Rudolph will start since his concussion in Week 5. With Rudolph also coming off a bye week, he could have a huge game.

One player who knows the Dolphins pretty well is defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick, who came to the Steelers via trade from the Dolphins, will be facing his former team. In addition, Fitzpatrick’s knowledge of the Dolphins offense could very well help in this matchup.

While the Dolphins are a winless team, the Steelers offensive and defensive play callers can’t get too cocky. Last season, the Steelers had an issue with playing down to their lesser opponents. Not to mention, the Steelers are trying to claw their way up the AFC North. A potential loss surely won’t help.

Dolphins players to watch

One of the issues with the Dolphins is their quarterback controversy. While there’s other issues on the Dolphins offense, the inconsistency from their two quarterbacks is the most eye-boggling. In this next matchup, Ryan Fitzpatrick will be starting for the Dolphins. However, it’ll be interesting to see if he stays in the whole game.

One of the most notable situations with the Dolphins, is that they’ve been moving a bunch of their players and the next to go is Kenyan Drake. However, Drake has been listed as out for tonight’s game. This next game, will be big for running backs Kalen Ballage and Mark Walton.

One of the Dolphins’ bright stars may return and it’s cornerback Xavier Howard. The Houston, Texas, native has not had the season he’s been hoping for. Howard has been battling injuries so far in 2019. In addition, in the four games Howard has played, he hasn’t recorded an interception. This is surprising, since Howard was top three in interceptions last season.

Final Thoughts

A win over the Dolphins, could start something for the Steelers as they’re still in the hunt. Positively, the Steelers do get their bright spot on offense back with Rudolph returning. After the win in week six everything looks to be clicking with the team.

There’s a lot of things wrong with the Dolphins, but they were close to winning in their last two games. Let’s see if they could make any strides towards winning in this match up. Additionally, the Dolphins want to help raise the Steelers pick that they own in this years draft.
