The men of Robert Morris University embarked to New York City trying to find an elixir for a winless February.

Entering a two-game road trip against Saint Francis of Brooklyn and Long Island University, the Colonials carried their season-high three game losing streak to the Big Apple.

On Thursday evening, the road trip started versus the Terriers. Slow starts have become a theme all too common for this basketball season, and this game was no exception.

Robert Morris gave up 40-plus points in a half and allowed multiple players in double figures yet again.

The Terriers scored 30 of their 43 first-half points from beyond the three-point line. Meanwhile, the Colonials hit one of their nine attempts from downtown.

At the half, it was St. Francis at 43 and Robert Morris at 27.

Over the last several games, the Colonials have found different ways to lose games. This contest was marked by a lack of secondary scoring.

At the start of the NEC schedule, the Colonial backcourt of Dachon Burke, Matty McConnell and Jon Williams could have been pinpointed as a major strength for the team’s early-season success. Over the three-game skid, McConnell posted double-digit points once and Williams did not reach double figures in any of those defeats.

Such was the case against St. Francis.  Burke’s 27 points in the game, was not supplemented by any other Colonial player. No other player had 10 points for the struggling squad.

Jalen Jordan led the Terriers with 21 points. As Rasheem Dunn and Glenn Sanabria pitched in with 16 and 15 points respectively.

RMU couldn’t dig themselves out of their first-half hole. The Colonials moved to Long Island with their fourth loss in their many games. The final score was St. Francis of Brooklyn 77, Robert Morris 65.

After being handed their fourth straight loss, Robert Morris took the trip to Long Island University.

RMU’s offense showed how much of a difference maker they can be. As the Colonials completed a season sweep of the Blackbirds with an emphatic 96-82 road win.

Led by the guard play of Dachon Burke and Matty McConnell, the Colonials definitely looked like they wanted to prove a point to the Northeast Conference.

On this afternoon, Robert Morris simply wouldn’t be denied. To the tune of 60 percent from the floor and 66 percent from behind the arc. Flipping the script of their recent losses. Getting off to a fast start and staying on the gas pedal.

Owning a 40-31 halftime lead, Robert Morris proceeded to drop 56 more second-half points.

“One of the biggest keys is we took good, shots” Toole remarked. “We worked the ball and made extra passes. It allowed us to create some opportunities for other guys to get to the basket and finish. Dachon and Matty were tremendous tonight. We need to have guys we can count on each night, and those guys led the way.”

Robert Morris posted four players in double figures. Led by Burke and McConnell with 29 and 23, respectively. The 23 points for McConnell was a career high.

The old saying is that great guard play can carry a basketball team into March. If the Colonial backcourt starts clicking again, this team can be dangerous in the NEC tournament.

With the losing streak and the road trip over, Robert Morris returns home to face Bryant on Thursday.
