Make it three consecutive years Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi has to replace a coordinator, as reports are flowing out indicating defensive coordinator Josh Conklin, 37, is heading to Wofford to become their next head coach.

This won’t be Conklin’s first rodeo at Wofford.

From 2007-2009, Conklin spent three years as the Terriers’ defensive backs coach and special teams coach.

Before arriving at Pitt, Conklin spent time at South Dakota State (grad assistant, 2003-2004. secondary/special teams, 2005-2006), Wofford (defensive backs and special teams, 2007-2009), The Citadel (defensive coordinator and safeties, 2010-2011), Tennessee (safeties, 2012), Florida International (defensive coordinator, 2013-2014), and then came Pitt until today.

His time and defensive prowess at Pitt shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Conklin, the only coordinator up until now who hasn’t left under Narduzzi’s watch after a year (pending offensive coordinator Shawn Watson this year), had his defense prepared, which led to some big wins over his tenure at the university.

Perhaps Conklin’s biggest achievement came on November 24, 2017, against the number two Miami Hurricanes. His defensive scheme allowed the Panthers to hold off the “U’s” powerful offense, letting them muster merely 14 points.

Add to that the Panthers ranked sixth nationally in sacks last season, averaging 3.31 per game. He developed a rush defense people of Pittsburgh could’ve likened to the “Steel Curtain” Pittsburgh Steelers.

Per Jerry DiPaola of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a press conference to announce Conklin’s hiring is set for Wednesday afternoon.
