New York’s Best Friends: Guest Post by Dog Lover Leela Kapoor

Leela and her beloved dog, Coco

This week we have a guest blog post from Konverser and Dog owner Leela Kapoor from New York City. If you or someone you know is looking to adopt a dog, wants to learn the best care practices (especially in a big city like New York), or just loves dogs, read Leela’s article below.

The busy city people call New York has over 1.1 million cats and dogs. In New York, over 600,000 dogs have a residence or the street to call home. About 5,000 dogs in New York are strays and are spread out around the city. Many donors are giving to charities that are helping these strays like the Animal Care Centers of NYC and the Best Friends Animal Society.

According to the American Kennel Club, the most popular breed of dogs that has come to them is the French bulldog. These tiny chubby monsters have climbed their way up to the most popular breed of dog in the United States. After the French bulldog, the next most popular breeds are the Labrador retriever and the golden retriever. These are also the top three dog breeds in New York City. Another note is that smaller dogs are really very popular in the city. The reasons for this are that they are easier to live with, they cost less money, and you can take them around with you.

Dogs everywhere eat, sleep, and poop. But a lot of them don’t get the right products that suit them. Research has shown that the best dry food brand is Canidae and the best wet food brand is Blue Buffalo, although, the most affordable option is Whole Earth Farms. We all want our dogs to be comfortable, and the one bed that seems to be the most loved by all dogs is the Big Barker Orthopedic Bed. Next, the best poop bags for the city are the biodegradable ones. These ones are not plastic but are made from a special material that is not harmful for the environment.

To end this blog, I would just like to add that every day, pounds are receiving 75 to 100 pets a day and have over 630 dogs in their care. So if you could please try to adopt and help these poor animals into homes where they are safe and loved that would be so amazing.
