Nine Men Roma Crashed Out of Champions League
Drawing 1-1 away from home in the first leg, Roma looked confident in grabbing that group stage ticket, but they fell short after finding themselves finishing that match with only 9 men and eventually losing 3-0.
Porto started brightly as they went ahead through Felipe’s effort, forcing Giallorossi to push forward vigorously which led into a clumsy play from Daniele De Rossi who got sent off before half time break.
Despite going a man down, Roma didn’t stop their attacking effort as they need to score a goal since they are losing 2-1 in aggregate at that time.
However, instead of getting an equalizing goal, Luciano Spaletti’s men found themselves in bigger problems when Emerson also got sent off for similar kind of foul De Rossi did.
Playing with just nine men, Roma eventually collapsed as they conceded two more goals from Miguel Layun and Jesus Corona.
It’s a disappointing result indeed for Spalletti’s men especially since they were sounding rather confident after stealing a 1-1 result in the first game.
