Chelsea approach Dortmund over Erling Haaland
This week, it has been confirmed that Chelsea have approached Borussia Dortmund over signing Erling Haaland. Since joining Dortmund in 2020, the Norweigan striker has scored a staggering 57 goals in 59 appearances. At the age of 20, it’s no surprise to see why Chelsea and the rest of Europe’s elite are clamoring to sign the wonder kid. After winning the Champions League though, Chelsea are in a nice position in terms of attractiveness for Haaland.
Having said this, signings of this amplitude are never simple. Due to his status, there are a couple of roadblocks. Firstly, Haaland still has three and a half years left on his contract, meaning he will not be cheap. Secondly, whilst Haaland is very much open to a Premier League move, he is also happy to stay at Dortmund for another season at least. Here, he would try to win the league with the club.
Reports so far state that signing Haaland would cost €170…so he would be far from cheap. This represents a mammoth profit for the German club who signed him for just €20 million last year due to a release clause from his previous club, Red Bull Salzburg. Impressively, he has now scored 126 goals in 170 appearances, which give you a hint at why he is so valuable.
If all goes to plan, and Cheslea’s bid is approved, then you still have the matter of rival clubs. The likes of Man City, PSG, and Real Madrid are probably few of the other clubs who can actually afford the star striker. Buckle in folks, it looks to be a long summer filled with speculation.
