Ones to watch in the final round of the Nations League

Ones to watch in the final round of the Nations League

The final round of match ups in UEFA’s inaugural Nations League are about to reach their conclusion and there’s a lot left to play for. For many teams, this final round of fixtures could be the difference between promotion, relegation, or qualification for the the finals next June.

Let’s take a look at the ones to watch in the final round of the UEFA Nations League.

League A

The top league in the competition has it all left to play for with all four groups still waiting to find out who will qualify for the finals of the competition June. Without a doubt the stand out matches will be taking place in Group 1 and Group 4.

In Group 1 the world champions France look to cement their place in the finals with a victory over the Netherlands on Friday night. The French sit top on seven points with the Dutch trailing on three. It’s France’s final game, but the Dutch still have two to play, and two wins will see them go through. If they beat France they’ll simultaneously relegate their old enemy Germany, which certainly be greeted as a welcome incentive.

Group 4 also has a lot of potential action in it. Well, that’s if Spain don’t spoil the party. All  three teams can go through at this point. Spain are top with six points and can seal qualification to the finals with a win against Croatia on Thursday night in Zagreb. Read this betting preview to get your definitive guide on the night’s top fixture ahead of time.

If Croatia manage to beat Spain at home it will be up to themselves and England to slog it out for fourth place when they meet at Wembley on Sunday night. The English will be out for revenge after their semi final World Cup defeat back in July.

League B

The stand out action in League B sees Sweden fighting for their future status in Group 2. The Swedes had an excellent World Cup that saw them make it to the quarter finals with sharp tactical nouse and a solid back four. They have two games left, the first coming at home against a rejuvenated Russia side. They’ll need to take all six points and score a few in the process to pip their rivals to the post.

Group 3 and Group 4 are also up for grabs with Bosnia and Austria set to slog it out for top spot which would earn them promotion to the premier league of the tournament. Bosnia and Austria meet on Thursday night in Vienna. It’s a tough one to call but it’s likely to be a goal shy affair. It’s always a good idea to consult Nations League betting tips before you place your bet!

League C

Group 4 is the stand out show in League C with Serbia, Montenegro and Romania all having huge potential for promotion. It’s a tight one with Serbia on top with 8 points, Montenegro on 7 and Romania on 6.

League D

The Nations League has finally given Europe’s minnows a platform on which to improve. Instead of having to suffer the ignominy of getting battered by Europe’s biggest and best, now Europe’s smaller footballing nations are finally showing what they’re made of.

The stand out success story so far is without a doubt newcomers Kosovo. Competing in their first ever tournament they’re currently leading Group 3 with 8 points. They travel to Malta and if they win, as well as if second place Azerbaijan fail to claim any points, they’ll seal promotion to League C on Saturday night.
