Liverpool Held by Man United, Everton Trashed Man City
Liverpool found themselves slightly behind again in the chase for English Premier League title after only picking up a point on their match against Manchester United.
Needing another three points to maintain their runners up spot, Liverpool found themselves under pressure early on as it was the home side that put more attacking initiative.
However, a mistake from Paul Pogba handed The Reds an important opportunity as the Frenchman handled the ball inside the box, giving Jurgen Klopp’s men a spot kick which was converted well by James Milner.
Things got more interesting afterwards as Man United got even more offensive minded, while the away side gain more confidence and looking dangerous on the counter.
As both team continue to battle it out, Jose Mourinho’s side finally got themselves back on level terms, thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s close range header.
Neither sides were able get that important winning goal, forcing that tie to end in a draw, which put The Reds now sitting joint second in the table with Tottenham Hotspur.
Meanwhile, Man United remained sixth in the current standings, but they have been able to maintain their recent positive run, which is a good thing.
In other game, Manchester City surprisingly got themselves hammered by Everton 4-0 at Goodisson Park, giving more pressure on Pep Guardiola.
Despite starting off well in the first 15 minutes, things suddenly went wrong for City as the Toffees got in front through Romelu Lukaku on 34 minutes.
Kevin Mirallas’ effort early in the second half made it tougher for Guardiola’s men and Tom Davies’ fine effort pretty much ended that contest, before Ademola Lookman capped off his team’s victory with a fourth goal deep in stoppage time.
