The Muay Thai Academy

On the area about 7 Rai (about 2.8 Acre) It is the location of the biggest Muay Thai Academy in Thailand. There is a big statue of Muay Thai boxer in front of the gym. The curriculum of the Muay Thai Academy is the only one curriculum in the country that certified by the Ministry of Education and the school has been operates for more than 10 years.

The aim of the Muay thai Academy is to promote Muay Thai arts to the world” Amnuay Ketbamroong, the owner of the Academy told the magazine about his initiative of founding the Muay Thai Academy, which first established on 5 July 1997 as the consequence of the establishment of the World Boxing Council in 1995 with 78 member countries.

“I believe that every Muay Thai gyms have its own way about how to teach Muay Thai to students. Most of teachers teach students from their own experience, which make thousands of gyms have thousands teaching styles. Therefore, my initiative idea is to have the Muay Thai school that has one standard lesson and teaching curriculum. And in order to do so, we all people who involve in Muay Thai industry in Thailand were invited to shape up the standard curriculum to be used with this Muay Thai academy, this includes specialists from the ministry of Education, physical education department, teachers from the university who experts in Muay Thai and martial arts teaching, Muay thai fighters, Referee and so on.

The Academy’s founder also adds that the Muay Thai Academy has three principal curriculums, which are Muay Thai boxing, Muay Thai for trainer and Muay Thai referee. Within each principle curriculum, there are also different levels of lesson. “Especially for the Muay Thai boxing curriculum, we have all levels from basic to completely advanced training”. Not only for ones who want to be a boxer, but for people who want to be a referee have to study and learn about rules of Muay Thai judgement as same as Muay Thai trainer who will never be good trainer if they do not have proper training course for trainer”. Amnuay also added

Amnuay explains that during 10 years of the gym’s service, there were hundreds of people who graduated from the Academy including Thais and non-Thais. All of them got the certificate from the Academy, which benefits to them, especially if they want to go back to their home country and open their own Muay Thai camp, unlike Thai students who come to learn Muay Thai here only because they want to increase strength and make the most use of their free time.

People who come to study here, 60% are non-Thais and 40% are Thais and I believe that the number of non-Thai are increasing. Some people mentioned to me that do not teach Muay Thai to foreigners because they will be stronger and more expert than us but it is not true. Our main objective is to promote Muay Thai to the world and want them appreciate Muay Thai. I strongly hope that when Muay Thai become one of sport competition in Olympic Games in one day and it will be the time for Thailand to get some gold medals from Muay Thai.
