Official: Liverpool teenager leaves Anfield in switch to Premier League rivals

Watford have confirmed the signing of striker Jerome Sinclair from Liverpool on Thursday after the two parties agreed on terms.

The promising 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Hornets and has become the club’s first summer signing as they make their plans for next season.

With his deal with Liverpool set to expire, given that he is under the age of 24, his ‘registration would have been subject to compensation in the form of a development fee’, noted the Official Liverpool website.

Nevertheless, the Reds go on to add that following amicable and professional discussions, the two clubs were able to reach an agreement and allow the youngster to make the move south to join Watford.

Sinclair became the youngest ever player to represent Liverpool when he made his debut at just 16 years and six days in their League Cup clash with West Bromwich Albion in 2012.

However, he went on to make just five appearances for the Reds thereafter, scoring in his first start against Exeter in the FA Cup earlier this year.

After a loan spell with Wigan and having represented England at youth level, he will now hope to secure regular first-team football at Watford, with new boss Walter Mazzarri putting his plans in place ahead of his first season in charge at Vicarage Road after replacing Quique Sanchez Flores last month.

Despite Jurgen Klopp giving youth a chance at Anfield since his arrival, Sinclair hasn’t been able to make an impression in the first-term. In turn, a move away from Merseyside will arguably be a good decision for his career, and he will hope to now continue his development at Watford under Mazzarri’s guidance.
