Guillem Balague has insisted that Spain goalkeeper David de Gea has not been sent home after allegations surfaced of his possible involvement in a sexual assault case.
De Gea has been implicated in an investigation carried out by Spanish authorities in relation to pornographic businessman ‘Torbe’, as reported by El Diario, but none of the allegations have been proven true as of yet.
In turn, despite the storm that it has caused within the media, De Gea is still in the team hotel ahead of the start of Euro 2016, although it remains to be seen if coach Vicente Del Bosque keeps him there.
If there is truth behind the findings, then De Gea will undoubtedly be facing serious punishment, however, as stressed by Balague, they are taking this as an innocent until Proven Guilty scenario and at this stage it’s likely to be considered as a serious distraction.
The Manchester United star had been expected to battle it out with Iker Casillas to be the first choice shot-stopper for La Roja, with Spain getting their Euro 2016 campaign underway against Czech Republic on Monday afternoon in Toulouse.
De Gea has not been sent home. He is in the hotel with the national team. There is a court case on the way. Innocent till proven guilty
