Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has reportedly Signed a new one-year Deal with the club, although there is no official confirmation as of yet.

The England international’s current deal runs out this summer, and it appeared as though his time at Old Trafford was coming to an end.

Although the veteran can still evidently play a role for the team based on performances this season, given Jose Mourinho’s arrival, it was assumed that he would perhaps struggle to cement his place in the side and would therefore consider his options.

However, in a slip-up from Club Legend Paddy Crerand, he has suggested that the 34-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal, but of course nothing is official until the club announce it.

“Something that happened today that nobody has mentioned, and I’m delighted that he has signed another contract: Michael Carrick. He’s signed a Contract for another year,” he told MUTV, as reported by Sky Sports.

“There was a situation where it looked as if his contract was up at the end of this year and that was it, but from what I’m gathering he’s there for another year.”

If true, Carrick would become the third player to sign a new deal since Mourinho’s arrival, with Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson both already agreeing to new contracts as the Portuguese tactician is seemingly wasting little time in getting his house in order.

It remains to be seen what role Carrick will play for United next season though if he does indeed stay, with Mourinho likely to strengthen his midfield options in the summer transfer market, as well as various other departments of the squad.

Carrick’s experience, familiar voice in the dressing room and ability to still play a solid role for the club, albeit in a more limited one as his career goes on into its latter stages, will all likely be crucial to Mourinho in his first season in charge.
