The Daily Mail reports that Spurs have opened talks with the Argentine before he enters the final two years of his contract, and that Lamela is ready to commit his future to the White Hart Lane club.
Lamela cost Spurs a club-record £30m from Roma in 2013 – fee reported by the Daily Mail – and initially fell significantly short of expectations as he managed just six goals throughout his first two seasons.
But he has finally adapted to the Premier League and has become a key component in Mauricio Pochettino’s team, starting 22 top-flight matches in Tottenham’s unlikely charge at the title.
The 24-year-old has mastered Pochettino’s high-intensity pressing style, and has also added goals to his game. He has three in the Premier League this season, and a further six in the Europa League.
And now the Daily Mail understands that the South American could soon agree a new contract with Tottenham, which would see him earn a sizeable increase on his current salary of £45,000 per week.
The Daily Mail adds that Spurs are on a new contract drive. Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Dele Alli have recently penned improved deals and Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen could be next.
