Manchester City could be without midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for a long time after he damaged his Knee Ligaments during his side’s 2-0 victory over Watford this evening, report Manchester Evening News.
City continued their pursuit of leaders Chelsea with a victory tonight, but losing Gundogan for a while is a considerable blow to their title hopes. Manchester Evening News quote City boss Pep Guardiola as revealing that the German international will be out for “several months”.
Gundogan moved to the Etihad from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, and has fast become a cornerstone in Guardiola’s side. His main pitfall has always been his proneness to injuries, but that is a risk that City were prepared to take. When he made the move, he was in the process of recovering from a dislocated knee cap.
We hope that his injury as not as serious as it appears to be, but we likely will not be seeing Gundogan in action until deep in 2017.
