Manchester United’s massive spending over the last few summers has left them with a squad that is starting to look very bloated.

Too many players on large wages is a drain on the club’s finances, and it’s difficult to keep a large squad all happy with minutes on the pitch.

With that in mind, it’s not surprising to see some of the players being forced to the fringes at Old Trafford now being Linked with moves away.

The latest name to be mentioned in this context is Ashley Young, the United stalwart now making fewer appearances as new signings bed in.

The former Watford man has been linked with a return to Hertfordshire by ESPN, who claim that the 31 year old who has made just two starts this term is ready to move back to where he made his breakthrough. With the Red Devils probably looking to slim down their squad and wage bill, this is a rumour which makes a lot of sense for all the parties involved.
