Frosted Flakes: Music on Mars

The Michigan State offense is the walking wounded, scientists turned pictures of a Mars sunrise into music, and artificial intelligence could save wildlife.

This weekend’s football game between Nebraska and Michigan State is the first game between the two teams since Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler were killed in a tragic car accident in 2016. The families of both young men will be part of a pregame ceremony and the coin that was used by the Big Ten to honor both (Foltz on one side and Sadler on the other) will be used in the coin toss.

Even though it has been more than two years since this tragedy, I’m glad both teams decided to honor these young men. Rest in peace Sam and Mike.

When it came to racism, the pen was Stan Lee's superpower
Stan Lee was a seminal part of Miya Crummell's childhood. As a young, black girl and self-professed pop culture geek, she saw Lee was ahead of his time. "At the time, he wrote 'Black Panther' when segregation was still heavy," said the 27-year-old New Yorker who is a graphic designer and independent comic book artist. "It was kind of unheard of to have a black lead character, let alone a title character and not just a secondary sidekick kind of thing." Crummell spent much of the '90s engrossed in Marvel Comics. And she felt so indebted to Lee that she waited in line to meet him at a 2012 convention.

How plants evolved to make ants their servants | Field Museum
Plants are boring. They just sit there photosynthesizing while animals have all the fun. Right? Not so much. Take a look at the interactions between ants and plants—plants have evolved features specifically to make them enticing to ants, like juicy nectar for the insects to eat and hollow thorns for them to take shelter in. In exchange, plants use ants to spread their seeds
