The Husker offense added another multipurpose tool to the #Frostfence today in the form of four star recruit Maurice Washington. Washington originally hails from California, where he was struggling both academically and athletically, eventually becoming ineligible to play football his junior year. His family moved him to a private school in Texas to give him a chance to start over, where he got back on track. Still, he received very little interest until recently. He called out Rivals on Twitter for his low rating, then just exploded in the Under Armour All-Star game. Luckily, the Huskers had been in on him, and were his primary choice before he garnered national attention for setting a scoring record in the American All-Star game. He was also the first player to score both a receiving and rushing touchdown in said All-Star game. Although he did express interest in UCLA and Michigan State, and received the full court press from Ole Miss, Baylor, Arizona State and Ohio State, he ultimately decided to stay with the Huskers.
Washington is a fast, elusive rusher with great vision. His coach states he ran a 4.42 40 last summer. I like how he finishes out every play. He’s also a talented pass-catcher, going after contested passes and coming down with the ball. A guy that includes highlights of himself making downfield blocks on his Hudl video labeled “big offensive plays” is always going to get high marks from me. Washington is truly a diamond in the rough. Frost and crew did a great job of finding this guy and recruiting him before anyone else realized his potential. This is a BIG win by the recruiting staff.
Welcome to the Husker family, Maurice! GBR!
