Corn Flakes: Ohio State, Minnesota Win Plus Previews For Weekend Games

Lots of good Football this weekend, here’s some stuff to prepare for it.

It was a fun night for an opening night (kind of, ignoring last weekend) of college football. I don’t think there was much unexpected...

Minnesota’s debut was more sluggish than I expected. Their run game wasn’t that great against a Buffalo team that wasn’t that great. Their young quarterbacks were inconsistent - as expected, and their defense was decent. It was the lowest points scored by a Gopher opponent since 2006, and PJ Fleck became the first Gopher head coach to win his opener since John Gutenkunst in 1986. How ‘bout that?

Ohio State’s first half wasn’t really unexpected either. The Buckeye receiving corps isn’t that great. Buckeye media/fans have spent this offseason blaming Tim Beck for their offensive problems last year, but this team is only going to go as far as their passing game will let them. They beat Indiana by focusing more on the run game in the second half, and by moving to intermediate routes in passing. Their receivers started catching the ball.

And when that happened, the Hoosiers do what the Hoosiers usually do in games like that, they fall back on the “oh, this again”, and the wheels come off like they did.

Minnesota article makes a lot of points about what they saw in the first game. What I saw was young quarterbacks causing problems with consistency in the offense. That wasn’t the only issue, but for me it was the biggest.

Jell-O salad is still breaking the dessert mold

Behold: the Jell-O salad. It is dessert, it is appetizer, it is cold, it is fruit, it is vegetable. It is a mishmash of soft textures, with the occasional surprise crunch. But mostly it is smooth and sweet, and a staple of family gatherings, especially in the Upper Midwest and Utah.

It’s like the mascot dessert food thing of Corn Nation. It’s back again this year, whether you want it to be or not.

Who’s gonna make some of this stuff and share it on a game thread?
