Jaguars officially sign third-round draft pick Andre Cisco

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Jaguars have now locked up five of its nine draft picks from the 2021 NFL Draft, officially signing safety Andre Cisco.

Earlier today, the Jaguars announced that they’ve signed third-round selection, Safety Andre Cisco. Cisco was selected with the 65th overall pick.

Thus far, the Jaguars have signed five out of nine of its draft picks, including sixth-round pick receiver Jalen Camp, fifth-round pick tight end Luke Farrell, both fourth-round picks, defensive end Jordan Smith and defensive tackle Jay Tufele and now Cisco.

Cisco played collegiately at Syracuse over the past three seasons, playing 24 career games, while making 21 starts. He would go on to record 136 total tackles (94 solo), 29 passes defensed, and 13 interceptions. The 13 interceptions were the most in the country from 2018 to 2020.

Cisco would miss the majority of his last season at Syracuse after suffering a torn ACL during warmups prior to the team’s contest against Georgia Tech.

Shortly following selecting Cisco, Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer gave high praise to the young safety, calling him one of his favorite players on the board.

“He had a tough knee injury, the good thing is a very clean injury, an ACL and that was it. There’s already a videotape of him training and going. He should be ready and cleared to go,” Meyer said.

“You watch him when he’s healthy and it’s hard to say he’s not the best safety in the draft. Trevon from TCU, excellent player as well, but this guy from day one we thought he was as good as there is.”

The Jaguars made it a concerted effort to bolster its secondary this season, signing free agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin and safety Rayshawn Jenkins, while selecting Cisco and second-round pick cornerback Tyson Campbell.

Over the course of training camp, Cisco has worked individually, while being held out of all team drills as he continues to rehab his knee. He is expected to be ready by the team’s training camp in July, but how much activity he receives early one remains to be seen.
