Just when you thought that it couldn’t get any worse, the Jacksonville Jaguars will remind you that it most certainly can.

Milking the clock with a 10-6 lead and time running out on the Washington Redskins chances, the Jaguars just needed to do what they had done all day in stopping an equally anemic Redskins offense and run out a couple of first downs to send the home crowd at TIAA Bank Field away with some positive vibes going into 2019. Instead, they got a sequence of events that included a deflected pass that should’ve been intercepted instead fall into the arms of receiver Jamison Crowder to set up a game-tying touchdown; A blatant offensive pass interference call on Donte Moncrief that would’ve extended the drive into Redskins territory; Another deflected pass, this time off the hands of Dede Westbrook and caught in the air by a Redskins defensive back. All of which led to a come from behind win for the Redskins, 16-13, in front of a modest crowd of Jaguars supporters seeing their team’s home schedule come to a merciful end.

To say the offenses for either team were worthy of their playing times, would be a disservice to actual NFL offenses. The Jaguars leading rusher was quarterback Cody Kessler, whose 67 yards on the ground was ten more than his yards in the air. Leonard Fournette had accounted for all of 24 yards before being benched for all but one play in the second half, in which he produced a 22 Yard run, before limping off the field in a microcosm of his Jaguars career to date.

Washington’s leading rusher was quarterback Josh Johnson, on loan from the San Diego Fleet of the new Alliance of American Football League, but his 150 yards passing and lack of turnovers was enough to lead the Redskins back to .500, at 7-7 and still in the hunt for a wild card spot, allegedly.

The Redskins trailed for much of the second half after a Dede Westbrook 73 yard punt return touchdown before halftime made it 10-3, Jaguars. But the Jaguars defense collapsed when it needed to make one more stop to bail out their offensive teammates and, much as has been the case all season, an otherwise good defensive performance was wasted on an offense that is an embarrassment to the game and to the fans.

The Jaguars with the loss fall to an abysmal 4-10, with road trips coming against a desperate Miami Dolphins and the playoff-bound Houston Texans to finish the season, a 4-12 record seems inevitable. So does a multitude of organizational changes coming for the Jaguars.
