Who are the Jaguars 2018 free agents?

The Jacksonville Jaguars 2018 offseason will feel like it’s going at a much faster rate as we cover it this offseason, because it started basically two months later that we’re used to. With that in mind, we will start looking ahead to see where the Jaguars will go and what they’ll be looking to replace. With that in mind, lets take a look at which players are pending free agents this offseason, meaning their contract is expiring.

Paul Posluszny, LB: Poz ends his first winning NFL season ever with his contract expiring and his play time diminishing. It’s clear Poz is not the same guy he used to be and is more of a run down player than anything. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the team bring Poz back on a backup type of deal and I think he might be open to it, as I don’t think the market for him will be very big. He’s just simply not a three-down player anymore.

Chad Henne, QB: You don’t know how much it pains me to read multiple times a day how the team should cut Henne this offseason. Good news! They don’t have to! Henne’s deal is expiring and I doubt the team will bring him back. They’ll likely add a high-end rookie or a potential upside type of alternative veteran rather than re-sign Henne.

Marqise Lee, WR: Lee is an interesting player this offseason for the Jaguars, but I’d be surprised if he’s back. I think if possible the Jaguars would like to keep him, but I think he’s going to have a pretty strong free agent market, at least stronger than what the Jaguars would be willing to pay. My guess is that the team will have a standing offer for him and allow him to hit free agency.

Allen Robinson, WR: He’s not going to hit the market.

Patrick Omameh, OL: Another intriguing player is Omameh, who started the majority of the season at left guard and played pretty well. I think the Jaguars would like to retain him, but he may not be the starter in 2018. I expect the Jaguars to add bodies to the OL group, be it through FA and the draft, but Omameh at worst would be really good depth for not too much price.

Aaron Colvin, CB: Colvin is a player who I would be stunned if he’s back. Not that I don’t think the Jaguars should re-sign him, I just think he’s going to get way overpaid on the open market. He’s an excellent nickel corner, but he’s going to want to chase being a starting outside corner in the NFL and I can’t blame him. Some team is going to give him that chance too, so I’d be very surprised if he’s back with the Jaguars. I think they can replace Colvin with a Day 2 draft pick or even with one of the other corners on the roster. They have enough talent all over the defense they can find someone adequate there.

The other pending free agents are guys like Lerentee McCray, Matt Overton and Peyton Thompson. They also have Corey Grant, who is a restricted free agent, who will undoubtedly be back.

The rest: Ben Koyack (ERFA), Chris Reed (ERFA), Shane Wynn (ERFA), William Poehls (ERFA), Tyler Gaffney (RFA), Jaelen Strong (RFA), and Donald Payne (RFA).
