Dave Caldwell offers some details on the Jags newest pick.

The Jaguars got their second night of the 2017 draft kicked off in literally a big way, trading their sixth round pick to Seattle to move up one spot and select Alabama’s Cam Robinson. The move makes a ton of sense for the Jaguars in general, but especially on the heels of selecting running back Leonard Fournette fourth overall last night. The Jags already needed to get better up front on offense, and after committing to Fournette, a selection along the offensive line seemed a virtual certainty.

Robinson played Left Tackle for the Crimson Tide, and while many draft analysts think he could stick there in the NFL, they also believe that he could be a Pro Bowl guard. When Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell met with the media after the pick, he provided some insight as to where Robinson might play.

This makes a ton of sense, as left tackle is considered a more premium position than guard, and you’ll want your best guy there protecting the quarterback’s blind side. The Jaguars traded for Branden Albert during free agency, but he’s gone from MIA to M.I.A., with Head Coach Doug Marrone mentioning he has not been in contact with Albert. Albert is sitting out in hopes of getting a new deal, but Dave Caldwell offered up some details on that situation as well.

Whoof. This is obviously a situation to monitor. Caldwell made it clear that Robinson is a tackle, so Branden Albert is officially on notice.
