The Red Sox were looking for a win in the afternoon game yesterday in order to not be swept by the Tigers. The Sox had Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound vs. Michael Fulmer for the Twins. ERod pitched well and the Sox offense ended up tying the game up down the line, but our new closer Brad Ziegler gave up a go ahead home run to Miguel Cabrera in the 9th and that was it for the Sox.
The Sox got on the board in the bottom of the 1st when Pedroia hit a solo homer. Sox 1-0. Rodriguez kept the Tigers scoreless until the 3rd inning when former Sox Victor Martinez hit a 2 run RBI single. Sox 1-2. The Tigers grabbed another run in the 6th inning when McCann hit a solo home run. Sox 1-3. Rodriguez was done after 6 innings and even though he would be in line for the win at the time, he pitched well.
Matt Barnes came out and pitched a scoreless 7th inning. The Sox got within run in the bottom of the 7th when Bogaerts hit a solo home run of his own. Sox 2-3. Clay Buchholz came out and pitched a scoreless 8th inning and then the Sox tied it up in the bottom of the inning when Betts hit an RBI triple to score Shaw. Betts almost came all the way around to score an inside the park home run, but ended up being held up at 3rd. Sox 3-3. Brad Ziegler came out for the 9th inning and unfortunately he wasn’t able to pitch a scoreless inning. Ziegler gave up the go ahead home run to Miguel Cabrera to have the Tigers up 4-3. The Sox offense wasn’t able to rally in the bottom of the inning and then Tigers swept the Sox to finish off the homestand.
