Rick Thurman Divests Stake in Beverly Hills Sports Council

Rick Thurman, co-founder of Beverly Hills Sports Council, has relinquished his ownership of the esteemed athlete representation firm.

Beverly Hills Sports Council was co-founded in 1984 by Thurman and his legendary partner, Dennis “Go-Go” Gilbert. After divesting his ownership stake in BHSC, principal ownership now belongs to Danny Horwits, who has been with the firm for nearly 30 years.

Since its founding in ’84, BHSC has represented a star-studded list of Major League Baseball players. During Thurman’s 37-year run, his agency represented Hall of Famers Rickey Henderson, Mike Piazza, Trevor Hoffman, and George Brett, along with other notables like Salvador Perez, Barry Bonds, Hunter Pence, Tim Lincecum, Bobby Bonilla, Tom Flash Gordon, Scott Erickson, and many more.

Thurman and his agency imposed significant ripples in the athlete representation industry. Beverly Hills Sports Council ushered in the era of full-service representation. In the last four decades, BHSC negotiated multiple record-shattering MLB salary barriers and over $2 billion of guaranteed salaries for players. The innovative concept of an all-in-one agency providing every representation tool necessary to cater to the success of athletes revolutionized the industry. Services like contract negotiations, business management, marketing/sponsorship/public relations support, legal and personal management are all offered by the one-stop agency.

Regarding his prestigious career and agency, Thurman said, “For the last four years, I have been spending more time with my other business, sports, and real estate ventures; the time was right to turn control of BHSC to Dan Horwits and protege Cesar Suarez, head of BHSC’s Latin Division. I Look forward to their continued success, and I will continue to support them in keeping the Sports Council at the forefront of the professional representation industry.”

Thurman continued by hinting at what the next chapter of his storied legacy will bring, “Very Shortly, I expect many across the professional sport and sport business industries will be excited to learn more about what’s on deck.”

Whatever Rick Thurman pursues next, he leaves behind one of the most successful and respected agencies in sports that will continue to serve as a landmark in athlete representation.
