Cristiano Ronaldo insisted that he did not need to be friends with his Manchester United teammates, in order to play well on the pitch.

The Portuguese International addressed to press conference, before Real Madrid’s champions league clash with Roma, and was asked about the close bonding between Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, and how it compares to his relationship with Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

“Is that what you read or what they say? I’m going to tell you something. I won the Champions League with Manchester United and I didn’t speak with [Paul] Scholes, [Ryan] Giggs and [Rio] Ferdinand beyond a ‘hello,’” began his pointed reply, AS reports.

“And yet we had a great team. I don’t have to dine with Benzema or invite him to my house. What’s important is on the pitch. I don’t need kisses and cuddles.

“I feel good and happy at a club that shows me affection, where I always play, where from time to time I score goals. I couldn’t be happier. I’m at the best club in the world.”

“I’ll be precise and keep it short. I know why Leo did it. I won’t say any more. You can think what you want now,” he replied.

“It’s normal, or that’s how I see it. When you raise your son poorly and give him everything, and then suddenly stop, he cries,” Ronaldo said, AS reports.

“I’ve spoiled people. I hope I continue this poorly until the end of the season…

“Tell me a player who has scored more away goals than I have since I came to Spain. There isn’t one.

“Away games are usually more difficult. We’re playing against a very good team with good players and a great Coach, but we’re convinced we’re playing and training well so we’re confident.

“I feel the same way about the Champions League as I do the League. I want to have fun and help Madrid win. The competition is special, but I always want to do a good job.

“We’re playing against a team supported by its fans, but we’ll try to play well and win the game.

“The team is improving after [Zinedine] Zidane came in. It’s noted as the game pass that we are good and we are winning matches.”
