The 2023 Jeep Compass Gets a Much-Needed Power Boost

Jeep is readying an update to the Compass that will bring a new turbocharged Engine. Car and Driver located emissions filings from the EPA show the compact SUV is getting a new powertrain that will bring a significant power boost.

The Compass’ 2.4-liter four-cylinder will be replaced by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque – significant improvements over the 177 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque from the larger mill. As C&D pointed out, Jeep sourced the 2.0-liter engine from the new Dodge Hornet crossover. A nine-speed automatic paired with all-wheel drive models before, but the automaker shifted to an eight-speed unit for 2023.

Jeep could have other tricks up its sleeve with the new Compass, as it hasn’t released complete configuration and options information for the 2023 model. We also don’t have pricing details, but the move to a turbo engine and all-wheel drive-only setup could drive the crossover’s price higher for 2023. Pricing for 2022 started at just under $29,000, but that included a front-wheel drive vehicle with a less powerful engine. The new Compass will likely start north of $30,000 and could extend well past $40,000 with the right options and trims selected.
