In the closing stages of the transfer window, Barcelona have found themselves up against the wall as they try to fight off interest from Paris Saint Germain in signing Ivan Rakitic.
The Ligue 1 giants are reportedly interested in both Sergio Busquets and Rakitic. But with the trail of Busquets going cold with Barcelona’s new contract plan, PSG are going all out for Rakitic.
Rakitic penned a new contract with Barcelona last year, but PSG are rumored to be willing to offer 90 million euros for the midfielder.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of their away game to Real Valladolid, Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde has optimistic as he says Rakitic was staying.
His words via Marca: “He is a fundamental player for us and I am counting on him due to what he does for us, the importance he had for the team last season was clear.”
“I hope that he stays here. I want to have the best players here and he is one of the best. He knows how we play, he is integrated into the team and the club.
“We are not here to make money from a player, we aim to win and make the trophy room bigger,” he added.
Rakitic is part of the Barcelona squad that would play Real Valladolid tonight.
