Barcelona’s interest in Philippe Coutinho has been on since the start of the transfer market began. But it was rejuvenated with the departure of Neymar that saw Barcelona earn 222 million euros from his sale.
But it has been nothing but rejection from Liverpool as they have insisted their star player is not for sale.
An offer from Barcelona of around £118 million was submitted on Friday and it was rejected again. Barcelona followed up the rejection with an ultimatum to Liverpool which was set to expire on Sunday 7pm. (Read details here)
Paul Joyce wrote in The Times:
“Barcelona’s response to having a third bid of up to £118million rejected for Philippe Coutinho was to make contact with Liverpool again on Friday and impose one of the transfer market’s more bizarre deadlines.
The Catalan club, in all their wisdom, informed Anfield officials that they have until Sunday evening to change their mind, and belatedly accept the offer, or it will be withdrawn.
Finally in this saga, the Camp Nou club has managed to do something which served as a source of amusement for Liverpool’s power brokers.”
RAC 1 gives update
Spanish radio Rac 1 has given an update on the move and says it’s ‘impossible’ for Barcelona to sign Coutinho.
The player has informed the club on his desire to leave, and remains unavailable for selection with a back injury.
