Claudio Ranieri has found a new club but bizarre rule says he is too old

Ex-Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri is set to return to management four months after he was sacked by the Foxes. The Italian won the hearts of fans after leading the team to a historic Premier League title in 2015/16. But results were poor in the next season and the Leicester board had to make the tough decision.

However, Ligue 1 club Nantes have reached an agreement to sign Ranieri. Nantes finished 7th last season and are in search of a new manager after the sudden departure of Sergio Conceicao.

The Portuguese coach, who just penned a new deal, left to return to his homeland to become the new Porto chief.

A deal was successfully reached between Ranieri and Nantes president Waldemar.

Claudio Ranieri agrees deal with Nantes but age limits confirmation

But there is a little problem with his move due to his age. The Italian tactician turned 65 last October and the rules say coaches over 65 cannot be appointed as coaches.

Nantes must wait for a special exemption and the confirmation of the deal from the FFF.

Speaking to France Info, club president Ndd Waldemar Kita said: “The League agrees, I believe that only the French Football Federation (FFF) with Mr. (Raymond) Domenech is delaying the appointment a little, I do not know why.

“What we are interested in is the experience of Ranieri as a footballer and coach, since we know that he has coached the biggest teams in Europe.”
