Why Argentine press compared Messi to the Argentine Angel of death

Lionel Messi is loved by millions of fans around the world. But for some insane reason, the press in Argentina have been really unfair to him.

Messi has received serious criticism from his won country. And one reason for this has been his lack of success with the national team despite taking over Europe with Barcelona.

Messi has led Argentina to three tournament finals under two years (from 2014 to 2016). But they were unsuccessful with the last one prompting him to go on a short retirement.

And just last weekend, another report from Argentine publication Diario Perfil, compared Leo to Argentina’s ‘Angel of Death’, Alfredo Astiz.

A look up of Alfredo Astiz on Wikipedia, revealed he had a “reputation as a notorious torturer” during the military dictatorship of Jorge Rafael Videla.

He is currently serving a life sentence in prison. But just last week, the Argentine Supreme Court gave Astiz hope he could one day leave prison.

The comparison was as a result of the rescinding of Messi’s recent four-game ban by FIFA.

Such a report and comparison has angered Messi and his family and they are exploring their legal options.
