But latest reports from China is not exactly good news for the player. He suffered an abdominal strain early in the month when his team – Tianjin Teda – played Chongqing Lifan.
Tianjin TEDA have conducted a series of test including a nuclear magnetic resonance on the 29-year-old. But they are yet to ascertain the cause of the mysterious ailment.
The Chinese club were without their captain in their 0-0 draw with Guizhou Zhicheng. And Mikel looks set to miss the Sunday’s home game against Guangzhou Evergrande at the Tianjin Olympic Stadium.
Tianjin Teda are in need of three points as they attempt to move up the table. They are currently in the second half of the table in 11th after four games played by them so far.
Mikel is expected to feature when the Eagles play friendly games in France next month having missed the recent friendly against Senegal.
