France hosted Spain at the Stade de France on Tuesday for a friendly game. The game was known for many things including the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
VAR was used t make two crucial decision. The first was ruling out Griezmann’s goal and the other was allowing Deulofeu’s goal.
But away from the VAR headline was another interesting moment during the game.
With the game tied at 0-0, Spain were awarded a Penalty kick and David Silva stepped up to take it.
Making a penalty save is probably the most difficult thing any goalkeeper can do. And its no surprise no goalkeeper has actually mastered the act.. not that we blame them.
The goalkeeper coaches do their best in training to get their goalkeepers training. They watch videos of every penalty kick taken by the opposition’s point man, and practice many in training.
But with all that preparation, sometimes a striker behind the player taking the penalty is all that is needed.
Hugo Lloris was shown the right direction by Olivier Giroud but relied on his instincts instead.
