Lionel Messi’s sanction sent shockwaves throughout the football world. La Pulga was handed a four-game ban and a fine of £8,111 for insulting the assistant referee.
The Argentina Football Association were the first to lambaste the ban, and then Barcelona followed. His teammates are also showing support with Pique saying: “Leo’s sanction seems to me like a barbarity.”
His fellow club strike partner Luis Suarez has also seen the ban as excessive.

He told reporters: “It’s incredible that for an insult they have banned him for four games.
“But from now they will have to look through a magnifying glass to analyse the bans.”
Uruguay had it tough in the last two weeks, loosing their last two games. They lost 4-1 to Brazil and then 2-1 to Peru, dropping to third from second in the 10-team group.
On Uruguay’s performance he added: “It’s the third consecutive defeat and the third time we’ve let a lead slip. We have to be self-critical and analyse many things because of the points we had and now we don’t.”
